Today’s lessons consisted of warm-ups and consolidation. We started with reviewing simplifying expressions using a chart to organize our terms. Students are really getting the hang of combining like terms and writing their final polynomial solution.
Next, we looked at one BEDMAS /BODMAS/PIMDAS/PEMDAS (whatever you call it in your neck of the woods) question.
We talked about a very common error that students make by first subtracting the 4 from 5. DO.NOT.DO.THIS!
We then switched gears and worked on a linear or non-linear from a table of values questions. That’s the beauty of spiraling, we can continually revisit concepts so that it “sticks” with the students. We extended the problem once we determined that it was a linear relation and calculated the rate of change, the starting point and determined the expression. We are working toward determining the linear equation. We haven’t used the terminology slope, y-intercept and equation of a line yet, but that is coming.
This Boom Cards™ deck allowed students to practice determining if the relation was linear or non-linear from a table of values.
Yesterday, we looked at a visual strategy of dividing fractions. You can check out that post here. We looked at a couple more examples to reinforce the concept.
Finally, we consolidated our learning and filled in a couple of summary pages.
I gave students some predetermined examples to summarize on their pages, since some couldn’t think of their own examples.
That is all for today.
I hope something here was able to help you on your teaching journey.
Have a wonderful day!
