My name is Sherry and I started teaching high school math in 2008 in Ontario, Canada. During my teaching career, I have taught all grades and levels, from the new grade 9 de-streamed curriculum to grade 12 data management (once and let’s say, I’m glad I haven’t had it since:)). I have experience with the locally developed curriculum and have additional qualifications in special education. I also taught grade 9 and 10 science at the beginning of my teaching career.
Recently I have been adventurous in my teaching practice, implementing a spiraled curriculum, flipped classroom, and thinking classroom. I really enjoyed teaching the flipped spiral with my grade 10 academic class last fall and would like to build that into my grade 9 course. Last year was the first time with the new grade 9 curriculum, so I thought I better just get through the curriculum once before I go to nuts with my delivery method. I did implement the spiraled thinking classroom in semester one with my 9’s but modified the delivery in the second semester to improve accountability.
I believe that all students are capable of enjoying math with the right attitude, tools, and engagement.
