Hey teacher friend!
Today I am writing about one of those nasty topics… teacher clutter. I’m sure with this profession you have noticed that stuff begets stuff and there can be SO.MUCH.STUFF!
I don’t want to call myself a hoarder, but man, it sure is UGLY in my storage/spare room… or should I say WAS ugly.
One of the tasks that I had been putting off for months (years if I am being honest) is decluttering and organizing my self-purchased/self-made teacher junk.
Here is a picture of “THE SHAME”!
Stuff was EVERYWHERE!
It wasn’t just my teaching stuff living in this room. There were a couple bins of my hubby’s stuff and two Christmas bins, but the lions share of the clutter was from stuff I collected and used to teach.
I decided that I would tackle the room bit by bit. It took me about 4 days. I would work on it for 20-60 minutes at a time and hammered it out. Surprisingly it went a lot quicker than I anticipated and I made big gains.
It definitely helped that I had my helper with me.
I don’t feel like I actually got rid of that much stuff, but I took the time to organize and put like items with like items, and just consolidate the mess. I think it’s safe to say that I don’t need to buy any school supplies for MANY years. Who knew one teacher could have so many binder clips!
Progress was steady and I was finally seeing the surfaces of shelves. That was progress. One bin at a time, one shelf at a time.
Every surface was covered. This book shelf is awful. It was one of those things that made me cringe every time I went into the room.
At least I could finally see the floor and walk around the bed.
It definitely is a major improvement, but It still needs some work. There are about 5 bins I will be taking with me back to the classroom, so that should help the space breathe a bit.
Do you have a teacher storage space at home that leaves something to be desired?
Well on the bright side, now my mom has a place to sleep when she visits, but let’s be honest… It’s not the Ritz (haha). This is what happens when you live in a house with no basement and very limited storage. Maybe I should become a minimalist teacher. I’ll work on that.
That’s all for now. I hope this has inspired you to declutter that drawer or purge that teacher bin.
Have a great day!
